Amazon Unveils New Smartphone in Seattle

Greater Seattle has established itself as a hub of ICT innovation, no better exemplified than today at Amazon’s “unveiling event” in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood. Although it was not officially announced, there has been weeks of intense speculation that Amazon would be debuting its first smartphone at this event – and with the whole tech world watching we can now confirm those rumors were true.

A selected group of 300 media and invited guests were able to see Jeff Bezos debut the “Fire Phone” in person, a little after 10:30 today.¬†The phone boasts a 4.7-inch screen, a 13-megapixel camera, unlimited photo storage in cloud, and some cool “dynamic perspective” features. It is also well connected to the Amazon.com platform – a feature called Firefly allows users to take pictures of products and have it automatically added to their online shopping cart, and can recognize songs, movies, and TV shows to boot.

Amazon’s event today is great publicity for our region – drawing press from all over the nation and world to our home camp. We have a feeling there will be a few more of these innovative tech-unveilings¬†in our region for years to come.
