The delegation meets with representatives from Smart Dubai, a collaboration of private sector and government partners established to empower, deliver and promote an efficient, seamless, safe and impactful city experience for residents and visitors.
Which country is an eight-hour or less flight from two-thirds of the world’s population?
If you guessed the UAE, you’d be correct. Like Greater Seattle, the UAE is located near equidistant by air to the major global markets of Asia and Europe. TDA led a business development mission to this important trade partner in November and came away with not only enhanced or new business relations, but great areas for follow up on behalf of the greater Seattle region.
Lieutenant Governor Cyrus Habib joined TDA’s business development and trade mission as the lead. The mission identified key opportunities for business and collaboration and branded Greater Seattle as a premier destination for investment and trade in aerospace, clean tech, biotech, entrepreneurialism, and other sectors of strategic importance. The mission coincided with the Dubai Air Show, the second largest airshow in the world. The delegation had the opportunity to visit the Air Show, and connected with Washington State Department of Commerce representatives to brand the region.
Meeting highlights in Dubai and Abu Dhabi included Strata; Dubai Department of Economic Development; Dubai Future Foundation; Mubadala; Masdar; Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development; Abu Dhabi Investment Authority; Smart Dubai; Emirates, and more.
TDA has multiple takeaways from the mission and is conducting follow up on many action items for our region. Stay tuned for updates and developments with this important business partner!
