The Ireland-based convenience foods company, Greencore Group, is preparing to open a new facility in Greater Seattle. The international company, who specializes in the manufacturing of fresh and frozen food-to-go products, has signed a lease in the Des Moines Creek Business Park. The land belongs to the Port of Seattle.
Active in the U.S. market since 2008, Greencore moved to the region one year ago to serve clients throughout the western U.S. Currently located in Sodo, the Seattle location is one of Greencore’s six manufacturing facilities in the U.S. The company delivers to more than 25 states. Local clients include QFC, Fred Meyer, Starbucks, and Trader Joe’s.
The new facility, which is twice the size of Greencore’s current home in Sodo, will house the company’s new research and development facility. The location will have 350 employees who will be moved from Sodo. Further, 50 new jobs will be added in the move. The facility is expected to open in early 2016.
The international company’s decision to locate its US manufacturing as well as research and development in Greater Seattle reflects Seattle’s prime location, excellent opportunities for growth and close ties to agriculture.
