The University of Washington (UW) receives more federal research funds than any institution in the United States other than John Hopkins. So, it’s no surprise that the UW is a major recipient of new research money under the Obama Administration’s stimulus plan. The UW is expected to receive $300 million in research money under the plan, much of it in the biomedical realm. Currently, the UW’s research budget is $1 billion.
The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, with a $330 million annual research budget, is also expected to see a large amount of stimulus money. The Greater Seattle region is a center of research with its companies making technical breakthroughs and partnering with institutions all over the world.
