Join the Trade Alliance and FRAEC for a roundtable discussion on Kazakhstan with His Excellency Erlan A. Idrissov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the United States. Kazakhstan is perhaps the least known booming economy in the world. Since 2001, Kazakhstan’s economy has been one of the fastest growing in the world. It is the largest nation and economy in Central Asia, and the ninth largest nation by area in the world. It is also an increasingly wealthy nation due to its enormous fossil fuel reserves as well as minerals and metals. In 2006, the country’s GDP grew by over 10 percent. Kazakhstan has benefitted from the booming neighbor economies of China and Russia. The country also has considerable agricultural potential with its vast steppe lands. The country also has a foot in space with its role in launches to the International Space Station. The mountains in the south are important for apples and walnuts; both species grow wild there.

Ambassador Idrissov became Ambassador to the U.S. last year on the Fourth of July. His distinguished career has seen him serve as Ambassador to United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden and Ireland. He has also served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan
