Have you ever explored your neighborhood? Taken your time to drop by some shops you always pass by but never actually visit? You will see that there are a lot of hidden gems around you. Recognizing this the City of Seattle’s Office of Economic Development (OED) launched the 2011 Only in Seattle marketing campaign. The program will feature locally owned businesses in eight neighborhoods: Belltown, Capitol Hill, Chinatown/International District, Madison Valley, Phinney/Greenwood, Queen Anne, South Lake Union and the University District.
The website puts a spotlight on different neighborhoods over the course of eight weeks. The program supports The Seattle Job Plan, the City of Seattle’s economic development strategy, and its goal to support and cultivate local businesses and entrepreneurs. According to Mayor Mike McGinn, “By shopping and dining at local businesses, we can keep dollars within the community and help forge a sense of pride and ownership among Seattleites about where we live.”
“Only in Seattle” has a presence on Facebook and Twitter, making this year’s campaign more accessible. You can get information about discounts, special events, and neighborhood news. Above all, this new attempt will encourage interaction between neighbors while growing the local economy.
