According to new figures from the Department of Commerce, foreign tourism to Puget Sound grew by one third in 2010. This put the Greater Seattle area 15th among the top 20 U.S. foreign tourist destinations in the country.
Tourism is a vital part of Puget Sound’s regional economy, drawing dollars to airlines, accommodations, restaurants, and other services. International visitors Washington ranked 14th among states with 501,000 foreign visitors. This represents a 32 percent for Washington increase since 2009.
