Please join the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), Korea-US. Economic Council (KUSEC), the Trade Development Alliance and the Washington State Department of Commerce for a discussion on the Korean economy and opportunities for Washington state companies under the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA) with a high-level business delegation lead by former Ambassador of Korea to the United States Dr. Duck-soo Han.

Over the past 60 years Korea has transformed itself from one of the most impoverished countries in the world to the third largest economy in Asia. Today Korea is Washington State’s fifth largest export market with two-way trade  valued at $5.5 billion in 2012. Major Washington State exports to Korea include aircraft, food and agricultural products and electronics, and education.

With the highest boadband penetration levels in he world, Korea was ranked as the world’s most advanced ICT economy in 2011 by the ICT Development Index.  US companies exported $8.3 billion in computer technology and electronics to Korea in 2008. While not tracked nationally, the Korean consumers’ consumption of software and services is also large.

Dr. Duck-soo Han is the Chairman of KITA. Prior to his appointment Dr. Han held a number of high-ranking positions in the Korean government. He served as Ambassador of Korea to the U.S.; Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea from 2007-2008, and held additional positions in the Korean government including Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Facilitating the KORUS FTA, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Trade Affairs. Dr. Han holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.

Korea International Trade Association (KITA) is Korea’s largest business association with 71,000 members. Established in 1946 KITA has been a main contributor towards the transformation of the Korean economy.
